Common Connection Issues
Last updated 2026-03-10
Connection Refused
If your AI tool shows a "connection refused" error, check these things first:
- Verify the URL — Make sure your MCP endpoint URL is correct. It should look like
https://your-domain.com/api/mcp. - Check your internet connection — The tool needs internet access to reach CodeContext.
- Firewall or VPN — Some corporate firewalls or VPNs may block outgoing connections. Try disconnecting your VPN temporarily to test.
Authentication Failed
An "authentication failed" or "unauthorized" error means your API key is not being accepted. Double-check that:
- You copied the full API key without extra spaces.
- The key has not been revoked — check the API Keys page in your settings.
- The key belongs to the correct organization.
Timeout Errors
Timeout errors usually mean the request is taking too long. This can happen if you have a very large knowledge base or if there is a temporary server issue. Try again in a few minutes. If the problem persists, check our status page for any ongoing incidents.
Still Not Working?
If none of the above solves your issue, try these steps:
- Restart your AI tool completely.
- Create a fresh API key and update your configuration.
- Check the tool-specific setup guide in our help center.
- Contact our support team with details about the error you are seeing.
