Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Custom Connectors and Developer Settings?

Custom Connectors is the simpler, recommended method — you just paste your MCP URL into Claude Desktop's UI and it handles authentication automatically. Developer Settings gives you more control by manually editing the JSON config file, which is useful for advanced configurations or when you need to set custom headers.

What is MCP and how does it work with Claude?

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that lets AI assistants connect to external tools and data sources. CodeContext uses MCP to give Claude direct access to your coding standards and API specs.

Do I need a paid Claude plan to use MCP?

Yes, MCP support in Claude Desktop requires a Claude Pro or Team plan. The MCP integration is available on all CodeContext plans including the free tier.

Will Claude automatically use my coding standards?

Once connected, Claude can access your standards through MCP tools. You can ask Claude to check code against your standards, or it may reference them automatically when generating code for your project.

How do I update my standards after connecting?

Any changes you make in your CodeContext dashboard are immediately available to Claude through MCP. No reconfiguration needed.
